Seventy-five days before the album came out, Camden had already heard it.

Jamie T played the Electric Ballroom on 24 June 2009 carrying a record nobody had heard. Kings & Queens would not be in the shops for another seventy-five days. "Sticks 'n' Stones", which closes this set, was not even out as a single for another five. Camden got all of it first.

He had earned the room the hard way. Panic Prevention arrived in 2007, took a Mercury nomination, and made a Wimbledon kid with a bass guitar and a sampler into something the country paid attention to. Then two and a half years of not much, while the second record took its time. This was the night he came back with it, in a Camden hall rather than a festival field, to people who had waited.

You can hear the split in the running order. "Operation", "If You Got the Money" and "Back in the Game" were songs the room could already sing back at him. "368", "Earth, Wind & Fire" and "Sticks 'n' Stones" did not exist yet outside a studio hard drive. Kings & Queens went to number two that September. In June it was still a rumour with a good bassline.

The footage comes from the limited edition bonus DVD, so it is properly shot, but it is thirty minutes in a low room off Camden High Street and it sounds like it. The Electric Ballroom is still there. Still on our listings.
